Some of my favorite photos are of places I’d been many times before, but until that moment, had never truly seen. It’s so rare to see something genuinely new that in a way, all photos are of things we’ve already seen. But when you look at a beautiful photograph you can feel something more. Something deeper than just what you see. The feeling that flows from within the scene and gives it its meaning. The feeling of what it’s like to truly be there, alive, in that moment. To me, this is the essence of an image, the source of its power to move us. When you see a photo you like then, what you’re actually seeing is a portrait of your own existence. A true reflection of what it is to be alive, and to be you.

No one takes a breath, but that a miracle has occurred. We are a part of the living universe, born unto itself to witness and revel in the beauty of its own existence. There could be nothing more important, more precious than the gift we each are given to see and be a part of this world.

I hope you find something in what I see that feels true to you, and I hope that whatever you choose to do with the time you have, you share it.
